Abundance Edinburgh www.abundanceedinburgh.com Abundance Edinburgh is about collecting surplus fruit grown in the city and putting it to good use. There are many fruit trees in Edinburgh, growing wild or in people’s gardens, yet most years a good deal of this produce goes in the bin. We plan to harvest this abundant food and redistribute it to local charities as a way of highlighting the social and health benefits of growing local, seasonal, and organic food. Harvesting the fruit is also a LOT of fun! Beltane Fire Society www.beltane.org The Beltane Fire Society was created in the late 1980's as a community arts project, celebrating the seasonal quarter-day festivals through street performance theatre. BFS continues this role to the present day, and encourages members of both Edinburgh's Community and the wider world to join us in continuing to celebrate these traditional events. Crossreach's Post Natal Depression Project www.crossreach.org.uk The Crossreach Post Natal Depression Project has been running for over 12 years. All staff are professionally trained and come from a variety of backgrounds including counselling, psychotherapy and art therapy. The Women's Therapy Groups are held in Edinburgh, Linlithgow and The Borders, are co-facilitated by group therapists and by health professionals including health visitors and community psychiatric nurses. Edinburgh Peace and Justice Resource Centre www.peaceandjustice.org.uk The Edinburgh Peace and Justice Resource Centre has been running since 1980, and has aimed to respond to the expressed needs and ideas of individuals and organisations who aim to deepen understanding of, and commitment to, issues of peace and justice. Pregnancy and Parents Centre Edinburgh www.birthresourcecentre.org.uk Pregnancy and Parents Centre is a charitable organisation which has grown and developed over twenty years in response to what women have told us that they and their families need during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. Many of those women continue to be involved as volunteers, making it possible to maintain our work of providing emotional and practical support, and information. Firrhill Dream Garden www.firrhillcentre.com The Firrhill Centre in Edinburgh offers a service provision for people with a physical disability. At the Firrhill Dream Garden, the Day Care Centre’s users are now able to access, enjoy and work in, the garden with ease thanks to the creation of raised beds, seating and handrails. The increased biodiversity has made the garden a more appealing place to visit and sit. The pond is a habitat for aquatic invertebrates, frogs and newts, and a water source for birds and mammals. Hedging and the butterfly garden have created a better habitat for attracting birds and insects and the bog garden and meadow have further increased the garden’s wildlife value. They energetically fought to raise the profile of the role of women in development, long before it was widely accepted, and were one of the first organisations in Scotland to take up the cause of fair trade as part of a solution to trade injustices.
