Fri 22 Feb 2019 - Cosmic Ceilidh Band Mayfield House Ceilidh. Fundraising for Mayfield House. Mayfield Community Club.
A ceilidh to warm those winter months, fundraising for and celebrating with Garvald Edinburgh Mayfield House. All dances were led by the Cosmic Trio ceilidh band who also sang songs, rock and roll, traditional ditties and pop from the 80s! Support acts were the fabulous Pink Ladies and the 15-piece Gorgie Go Getters. This was an informal learning disability and family-friendly ceilidh with easier dances and lots of free dancing and music, as well as the regular Strip the Willow, Dancing White Sergeant and St Bernard's Waltz. The licensed bar was provided by the venue. Cakes and sandwiches from Mayfield House were available. A fantastic raffle with awesome prizes including many made by members and staff of Garvald Edinburgh. We raised a total of just over £600 for the work of Mayfield House (Garvald Edinburgh). Mayfield House is a service of local charity, Garvald Edinburgh, which is a Scottish Charity offering creative opportunities and support for people with learning disabilities. And for the first time we were delighted to introduce a host of family-friendly activities run by NonStuff from 7-8pm including sea shanties, crafts, games, magic, paper airplanes, innertube art. Our regular craft beer, organic wine and single malt bar, was supplemented by a new apple cocktail bar - three cocktails and a mocktail. The band play and call the steps to all the well-known Scottish ceilidh dances and a few of the more unusual ones besides, with a line-up of fiddle, accordion/whistle, guitar, bass and percussion. Also to mention our very first band Wild Geese, and another wonderful and regular band over the past five years, Threesome Reel. Although band members have moved on to other things, rest assured that the music still runs strong through their veins. Thanks for all your hard work over the years. |
