Climate Emergency Ceilidh

Picture
We're delighted to bring together the passion and commitment of the Scottish Youth Climate Strikers, the steadfast campaigning over 40 years of Friends of the Earth Scotland and the on-the-ground dedication and concern of Refugee Survival Trust to bring you our 4th fundraising ceilidh at Greyfriars Kirk, back with the super talented Hud Yer Wheesht.

We've got to continue to pile pressure and persuasion on our leaders, lead by example in our own lives, and shout out about the climate emergency. At the same time we need to sustain all our networks and activists with food, music and dance (as well as financial donations).

Thanks to all our volunteers, 100% of profits from the food, door and bar will be split between Friends of the Earth Scotland and Refugee Survival Trust, with all proceeds from the raffle going to Scottish Youth Climate Strikers.

We hope you can join us on the 2nd of November for some fun, some passion, and a commitment for doing what you can for our fragile planet and her many inhabitants.

In peace and a twirl,
Robin and all the ceilidh collective.

Raising funds for Reforesting Scotland and Refugee Survival Trust

The start of our new season kicked off with a bang with the spectacular new line-up from the Cosmic Ceilidh Band and mesmerising support from indie folk band The Forgotten Works, local singer-songwriter Kenny Vass.

And for the first time we were delighted to introduce a host of family-friendly activities run by NonStuff from 7-8pm including sea shanties, crafts, games, magic, paper airplanes, innertube art.

Our regular craft beer, organic wine and single malt bar, was supplemented by a new apple cocktail bar - three cocktails and a mocktail.

Gandolf returned with our enticing raffle; its not who wins but who gets to draw from the hat!

We are fundraising this time for Reforesting Scotland & Refugee Survival Trust

Cosmic Ceilidh Band
http://www.cosmicceilidhband.com/
Tel: Mo on 07878 829 685
Lets get the cliches out of the way first, the Cosmic Ceilidh Band are out of this world, off their planet and just what any wedding, function or event needs. They formed from a gaseous cloud earlier this millenium and are well on their way to stardom.

The Belle Star Band
http://www.musicscotland.com/bellestars/
gica@loening.com
Tel: Gica on 0781 465 7209
One of Scotland's top all-women dance bands, The Belle Star Band have got to be unique in spanning three cultures - Scottish Urban Ceilidh, Jewish Klezmer and Canadian/American Contradance. Their great sense of swing, strong fiddle-driven sound and love of playing for dancing make them the glue in any social gathering. Now available for weddings, bar mitzvahs, festivals, parties, conferences... meet the band - Jenny Gardner, Alison Cowie & Gica Loening (fiddles), Cathy Wood (acoustic guitar & caller) and Lynn Sampsell (electric & double bass).

The Robert Fish Band
http://www.therobertfishband.co.uk/
sarah@therobertfishband.co.uk
The Robert Fish Band have been getting folk on their feet in Edinburgh and beyond for well over a decade. They spend many a Saturday night "walking the line between tradition and innovation with sparkling flair - and a highly contagious sense of fun" (Sue Wilson) and have played venues from Blackpool to Brittany, from Leipzig to Lochaber, from Glasgow Green to Gilmerton Miners' Welfare Club. The band play and call the steps to all the well-known Scottish ceilidh dances and a few of the more unusual ones besides, with a line-up of fiddle, accordion/whistle, guitar, bass and percussion.

Also to mention our very first band Wild Geese, and another wonderful and regular band over the past five years, Threesome Reel. Although band members have moved on to other things, rest assured that the music still runs strong through their veins. Thanks for all your hard work over the years.
